Ottawa AFA™ Skin Care Program
What are AFA’s™?
AFAs are a new, unique, and fully patented cosmeceutical. AFAs are based on the same natural acidic amino acids that serve to retain moisture in human skin. They are also potent antioxidants and extremely helpful against photo pigmentation. They are remarkably free of irritation at effective pH levels.
AFAs are the first cosmeceutical ever to utilize these valuable acidic amino acids as part of a skin care regimen.
"AFA" is an acronym for Amino acid Filaggrin based Antioxidants. Filaggrin is a protein that occurs in the upper layer of the skin, the epidermis. Filaggrin is metabolized in the epidermis into several acidic amino acids and these amino acids are the primary agents responsible for the skin’s ability to retain moisture. They are also the same amino acids used to produce AFAs.
What is the AFA™ skin care program?
An in-office AFA™ skin treatment is a unique in-office two-step procedure. The first step is the application of an AFA rare earth clay masque that draws impurities from the skin and prepares the skin for the second step. This second step involves the application of the patented AFA gel peel. This Peel provides exfoliation and delivers powerful antioxidants to the skin.
Best results are achieved by a series of 8 peels administered at 2-week intervals.
There is no down time with this peel, and make-up may be applied immediately after treatment.
Treatment time is approximately twenty (20) minutes. To accelerate treatment results, a home-maintenance program is available for your convenience.
What are the advantages of the AFA™ skin care program?
- AFA’s™ promote greater moisture retention in human skin
- AFA’s™ have 3 fold greater antioxidant potency than AHAs
- AFA’s™ are very effective exfoliants
- AFA’s™ are more powerful against photo-pigmentation
- AFA’s™ have little irritation when compared to AHAs
- AFA’s™ are not photosensitizing
Who is a candidate for the AFA™ skin care program?
- Patients looking to treat sun-damage and photo pigmentation. AFAs have shown fabulous results for patients with photo-pigmentation.
- Patients with sensitive skin. AFAs are far less irritating than AHAs, and therefore can be better tolerated by sensitive patients. Still, AFAs are completely unneutralized and have a very low pH, so patients can still achieve the results that they expect.
- Patients with very dry skin. Patients that have experienced excessive dryness with the use of AHAs will often do very well with the AFA program.
- Patients with darker or more reactive skin types. Patients with darker skin complexion have always been a risk of hyperpigmentation with the use of AHAs. As stated above, there have been no reports of problems in these skin types with the use of AFAs.
- Patients undergoing microdermabrasion. As opposed to simply a moisturizing or “healing” daily skin care program that most microdermabrasion companies offer, the AFA program offers a non-irritating, active, and effective daily skin care program that will enhance and accelerate the results of the microdermabrasion.
- Patients undergoing other cosmetic procedures. AFA’s can be used in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as microdermabrasion, laser or pulsed-light photorejuvenation, Botox Cosmetic®, and acne therapy
