Botox® Cosmetic is injected into muscles that move the eyebrow. These muscles are positioned around the eyebrows and are anatomically known as the corrugator muscles. Corrugator muscles are responsible for pulling the eyebrows downward as well as vertical furrows that appear on the forehead. The orbicularis oculi muscle on the other hand, is responsible for blinking and is primarily positioned as a circular muscle around the eye. This is the muscle that causes "crow's feet" wrinkles at the outer corners of the eye. The “crows feet” lines are commonly treated by Ottawa Botox® injections. Constant use of these muscles together is responsible for the formation of deep lines between the eyebrows. Botox® injections are clinically indicated for softening glabellar lines.
Botox® Cosmetic injections essentially serve to relax the muscles that are responsible for putting creases in the skin. The muscles injected with Botox® will begin to relax post Botox® injection. Muscles treated with Botox® normally remain relaxed for a period of three to six months with proper injection technique and adequate dosing. The ability to contract will spontaneously return to the injected muscles after the effects of Botox® Cosmetic reverse following this period.
