BOTOX COSMETIC®

Botox CosmeticWhat is BOTOX Cosmetic®?
BOTOX Cosmetic® is the trade name for a purified protein product derived from the bacteria clostridium botulinum. When droplets of BOTOX Cosmetic® are injected precisely into certain facial muscle groups-the most common areas are the frown lines between the eyebrows and on the forehead-they help relax these muscles. As a result, the overlying wrinkles appear smoother, and facial architecture is subtly rebalanced.

What does a BOTOX Cosmetic® treatment involve?
Prior to any cosmetic procedure using BOTOX Cosmetic®, it is essential that you consult a qualified physician, to determine the suitability of BOTOX Cosmetic® for you. During treatment, the physician uses an ultrafine needle to carefully deliver droplets of BOTOX Cosmetic® into the skin and specific muscle groups. No anesthetic is required, and the procedure takes less than five minutes. Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment.

Is BOTOX Cosmetic® a safe product?
For more than 15 years, BOTOX Cosmetic® has been used safely in Canada and the United States for therapeutic and cosmetic applications. Both Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have approved this product for select indications. If you are considering a treatment with BOTOX Cosmetic®, you are advised to ensure proper medical consultation with the treating physician, as well as to understand thoroughly the risks and benefits of the procedure prior to undergoing treatment.

Can anyone get treatments with BOTOX Cosmetic®?
People with a history of certain neurological disorders should not consider any form of BOTOX Cosmetic® treatment. Furthermore, BOTOX Cosmetic® is not administered to women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, people who are taking certain medications, or those who have previously experienced an adverse reaction to BOTOX Cosmetic® treatment. While these are some of the common contraindications to the use of BOTOX Cosmetic®, it is essential that anyone interested in treatment first be assessed and approved by a qualified medical professional.

What can I expect after a treatment?
BOTOX Cosmetic® gradually takes effect over the first few days following a treatment. Muscle relaxation usually begins within a few days, and the peak effect may require as long as 30 days post treatment to be evident. Detailed post-treatment care instructions will be provided at the time of consultation.
